The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Health Initiative presentation of 10,000 professional kits (Crocs and scrubs) to midwives in the North-East zone was officially flagged off on April 10, 2025 in Jalingo, Taraba State. I had the honour of joining the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, alongside my fellow RHI State Coordinators at the event.
In her keynote address, the First Lady of Nigeria emphasized that no woman should lose her life while bringing a child into the world. She highlighted that the demands of the healthcare profession go beyond skill; they require the right tools, infrastructure, and sustained support. Commending the efforts of midwives and the broader health workforce, she acknowledged their critical role in reducing maternal and child mortality across the Nation.
Her Excellency also applauded the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Health, the NPHCDA, and healthcare workers nationwide for their tireless dedication to improving healthcare delivery. Since its inception in 2023, the RHI has continued to deliver impactful interventions across health, education, agriculture, economic empowerment and social investment.
The First Lady and National Chairperson of the RHI, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, further announced the RHI Small Businesses Recapitalization Grant of N50 million to support 1,000 petty traders in Taraba State; a gesture the State Government has pledged to match, thereby reaching an additional 1,000 women. N50 million grant was also presented to Delta State to support 1,000 more women traders in recapitalizing their existing businesses.
Additionally, the First Lady held a meeting with the Taraba State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, led by the Aku Zika of Wukari. During the meeting, she appealed for their collaboration in the renewed campaign against HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, Syphilis, and Tuberculosis.
