To demonstrate commitment to the health and well-being of vulnerable people, a core objective of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, on March 3, 2025, in Bayelsa State, launched the 2025 series of the NDDC/RHI free medical outreaches. This was made possible through RHI’s collaboration with NDDC - Niger Delta Development Commission.
The launch, which also marked the NDDC’s 25th Anniversary, featured the presentation of 11 ambulances and personal protective equipment to selected hospitals in the region, the inauguration of a cottage hospital, the launch of a health insurance scheme for rural dwellers, the establishment of a community secondary school in Otuasega, and the distribution of textbooks, school benches, and desks.
In her address at the event, the First Lady commended the NDDC for recognizing that health and education are vital pillars of development. She encouraged the people to fully utilize the various interventions and noted that the volume and quality of projects being commissioned is evidence that the Government appointed capable leadership to steer the Commission. Earlier, during a meeting with the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, the First Lady emphasized the importance of people-centered leadership and solicited the support of traditional rulers in driving RHI’s health advocacy across communities.
In his remarks, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, acknowledged the NDDC’s complementary role in development and praised the Commission’s commitment to improving the region. He also expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her compassion and dedication to uplifting the lives of Nigerians. Since November 2024, this marks the third intervention under the RHI-NDDC collaboration, which has also included the distribution of uLesson educational tablets and the commencement of the NDDC/RHI Youth Internship Scheme.
