Yesterday, in my office, I received the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Adanna Steinacker, who paid me a courtesy visit following her recent appointment by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

Dr. Adanna, a proud daughter of Imo State, expressed her joy at the visit and highlighted the Federal Government’s initiatives aimed at improving women’s health and well-being, particularly efforts to eradicate infant and maternal mortality. She also reiterated her commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3 and SDG 5) for good health, well-being, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and girls.

Also present at the meeting to welcome her were the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Nkechinyere Ugwu (UNJP), and the Executive Secretary of the Imo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency-ISPHCDA, Reverend Sister Dr. Maria-Joannes Uzoma. They appreciated her visit and reaffirmed that Imo State is making significant strides in reducing infant and maternal mortality through the support of the State Government and my office. This is being achieved through improved healthcare infrastructure, the Imo State Health Insurance Agency, and other medical interventions in primary healthcare centers.

In my remarks, I warmly welcomed Dr. Adanna and expressed my joy in seeing more women taking active roles in governance, especially one from Imo State. I assured her of my willingness to collaborate for the progress of our State and the country at large.
