2025 WORLD TUBERCULOSIS DAY

Chioma Uzodimma
24 MARCH 2025

Tuberculosis is one of humanity's oldest and most persistent diseases and has continued to claim millions of lives annually, making it one of the leading infectious killer diseases. Behind these numbers are real people; parents unable to work and support their families, children missing school, and communities bearing the burden of a preventable and curable disease. Yet, there is reason for hope.

Today, as we mark World Tuberculosis Day, we stand at a critical moment in our global fight against this disease. This year's theme, "Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver," calls for urgent action. The path forward requires us to commit fully to TB elimination as a public health priority. If you or someone you know has a persistent cough lasting two weeks or more, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, or fever, visit your nearest health facility for free TB screening.

Let us work together across sectors and borders to create a world where no one suffers from this preventable disease. Remember, TB anywhere is TB everywhere. Together, we can achieve a TB-free Imo State and Nigeria. As we commemorate this day, let us remember that ending TB is not just a health imperative but a matter of social justice. The time for action is now. Yes! We Can End TB. Let us commit, invest, and deliver on this promise for current and future generations.
