The virtual meeting of the National Task Force for Cervical Cancer Elimination (NTF-CCE) brought together its leadership, as well as Subcommittee Chairs and their teams, to advance efforts toward eliminating cervical cancer in Nigeria by 2030. The session was chaired by H.E. Prof. Isaac Adewole, former Minister of Health; H.E. Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC); and Prof. Sani A. Malami, Secretary of NTF-CCE.
Prof. Adewole provided an overview of the task force’s mandate, emphasizing that no woman should die from cervical cancer, as it is both preventable and treatable. He highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment through the establishment of the NTF-CCE under the Federal Ministry of Health and the crucial role of the committee in tackling this disease.
As the Chairperson of the Subcommittee on Monitoring and Evaluation, I delivered my goodwill message, expressing gratitude to the leadership for entrusting me with this role. I also reaffirmed my commitment to working with fellow leaders to achieve the WHO’s 2030 targets: 90% of girls vaccinated, 70% of women screened, and 90% of women with precancer treated.
The meeting was a significant step in our collective fight against cervical cancer, reinforcing the dedication of the National Taskforce leadership and Subcommittee Chairs in achieving a cervical cancer-free Nigeria. #HPVAwareness #CervicalCancer #CancerAwareness
