The Nigerian Women's Day, a side event at the #CSW69 in New York, USA organized by the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Women Affairs was held yesterday on March 15, 2025 with the theme '30 Years of Progress, Resilience, Impact and Renewed Hope' celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in Nigeria.
It was a forum to share Nigeria's experiences, reflect on achievements, learn from others, and inspire collective action from Nigerian delegations of women breaking barriers in politics, business, science, and many other fields with global leaders and stakeholders to address both long-standing and emerging challenges to gender equality.
My experience was shared on the 6th Panel - "Inspiring Legacies: The Custodians." I spoke about my Mother being the foundation of the legacy I embraced and the need for every initiative to be measured not by how much was done but by how much lives were changed. I also acknowledged the influence of the First Lady, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, and the impact of former State first ladies especially, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, Mrs. Erelu Bisi Fayemi and Chief Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, who taught me key lessons in service, leadership and personal life. There is a need for our stories to be told so as to encourage excellence in small things. We are custodians of the legacies we inherit, but we are also architects of the legacies we leave behind.
