Over the weekend, the five-day Community Awareness Advocacy Program for the Establishment of the Girl Child's Right to Early Education in Imo State concluded. This impactful event was organized by the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC), in partnership with 10 Miles Resources Limited, with support from my office and the Government of Imo State.
I was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Imo State, Hon. Nkechinyere Ugwu, UNJP, at the closing ceremony, where she extended a warm welcome to all Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and other advocacy groups on my behalf.
I commended their commitment to community development and emphasized the urgency of this initiative. Every girl child deserves access to quality basic education, which is fundamental to her growth and future opportunities. I urged all participants to take this advocacy into their communities, especially during this year’s August meeting, to promote girl child education and safeguard their right to early learning.
During the event, Mr. Ademola Mutiu of NMEC encouraged attendees to commit to advocating for girl child rights, speaking out against female genital mutilation, and supporting enrollment campaigns for young girls.
The closing ceremony highlighted the power of collective action in advancing girl child education and empowering local communities. My heartfelt appreciation goes to all our partners, traditional rulers, community leaders, and the Government of Imo State, led by my dear husband, Governor Hope Uzodimma, for their invaluable support in making this program a success.
