Cancer does not discriminate by age, gender, or social status. Yet, through our collective uniqueness, we can make a difference.
In the spirit of the 2025 World Cancer Day commemoration, I visited the American Cancer Hospital, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, in the company of the Honourable Commissioner for Health (Primary Health, Social Services and Health Insurance), Dr. Success Prosper-Ohayagha; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Hon. Chinyere Emeziem; Dr. Pat Iwu, wife of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG); Engr. Oby Anyaehie, wife of the Chief of Staff, Imo State Government (IMSG); and the Executive members of the Imo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency-ISPHCDA, led by the Executive Secretary, Rev. Sr. Dr. Maria-Joannes Uzoma.
During our visit, I was moved by the courage and resilience of the patients and their families. To show my support and solidarity, I covered the costs of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments for some patients and paid hospital bills for others. It is moments like these that remind us of the power of kindness and compassion. By embracing our uniqueness and standing together, we can transform lives; one act of kindness at a time.
