The Free-To-Shine Campaign, a joint initiative of the African Union (AU), the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), and global partners, was officially launched in Nigeria yesterday. This advocacy campaign aims to revitalize efforts to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa, focusing on reducing new infections among women of reproductive age, preventing mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), and ensuring access to treatment and support for children living with HIV.
Alongside my sister First Ladies, we joined Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, the First Lady of Nigeria, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, at its flag-off. At the event, the First Lady called for intensified efforts to ensure that the global Triple Elimination target of HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, and Hepatitis is achieved by 2030. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness, renewing commitment, and taking collective action against these diseases. This aligns with the national vision of a healthier Nigeria where all individuals, particularly women, youth, and children, can thrive.
The First Lady commended the efforts of healthcare workers and various agencies involved in combating HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, and Hepatitis. She called upon faith-based organizations, traditional institutions, educational institutions, and families to actively participate in HIV prevention advocacy. Furthermore, she urged healthcare providers to expand access to HIV testing services, including comprehensive counseling, treatment, and care for all individuals who test positive. The Free-To-Shine Campaign, Triple Elimination of HIV/AIDS, Syphilis and Hepatitis is expected to be championed in all States of the Federation by the First Ladies. #RHI
