I extended my visit to the Nigerian Correctional Service Custodial Center in Owerri, Imo State, to celebrate Christmas with the inmates. Represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Nkechinyere Ugwu, UNJP, I distributed materials to all inmates, both male and female, and offered to renovate their sewing shop, which I had previously equipped with sewing machines. I encouraged the female inmates to remain strong during this Christmas season, reminding them that the birth of Jesus Christ symbolizes hope and the fulfillment of their hearts' desires. I assured them that my office would continue to support their skills acquisition programs to ensure they gain the necessary skills to become better individuals upon their release.
During the visit, funds for upgrading the sewing section were handed over to the facility’s officer in charge, DCC Chinaka Idoka Nwokoma. He warmly welcomed us and expressed gratitude for my kindness and generosity toward the inmates. He specifically thanked me for my commitment to empowering each inmate with skills for a brighter future.
