Women and girls are disproportionately affected by gender-based violence and systemic abuses, suffering devastating physical, emotional, and psychological harm. This disturbing reality highlights the urgent need for collective action to protect and empower them.
In response to this critical issue, my office, in collaboration with WARIF - Women at Risk International Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to combating gender-based violence, on 16th December 2024 launched the WARIF Girl Project at the Imo State Government House. This initiative is specifically designed to sensitize and educate young girls about the far-reaching consequences of abuse, as well as strategies for prevention and curtailment.
Through the WARIF Girl Project, we aim to create a safe and supportive environment where girls feel empowered to speak out against abuse and seek help when needed. By providing them with accurate information, resources, and support networks, we hope to equip them with the knowledge and confidence to protect themselves and their peers from harm. Ultimately, the goal is to break the silence surrounding violence against women and girls, and to foster a culture of zero tolerance for these heinous crimes.
