On October 16th, World Food Day was celebrated, a global event that underscores the fundamental human right to nutritious food. This year's theme, 'Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future,' serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to ensure everyone, especially the most vulnerable, has access to quality food.
To commemorate the Day in Imo State, I was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Nkechinyere Ugwu UNJP, at an event held at the Imo State Government House in Owerri. The event aimed to enhance food security in the state by promoting local food production, reducing hunger, and supporting small-scale farmers. This approach addresses issues of food insecurity, malnutrition, and sustainable agriculture.
Cash, food items, improved cassava stems, maize seeds, and other farm inputs were distributed to individuals from all 27 local government areas of the state. Our goal is a future where food is available, accessible, and affordable for everyone in Imo State. #WorldFoodDay
