October 15th marks the International Day of Rural Women! This day serves as a tribute to the valuable contributions women make in rural areas worldwide. They are the backbone of their localities, playing an important role in various sectors such as agriculture, sustainability, family well-being, and community development. The theme for this year, 'Rural Women Sustaining Nature for Our Collective Future: Building climate resilience, conserving biodiversity, and caring for land towards gender equality and empowerment,' showcases their indispensable work in global sustainability. Despite the numerous challenges they face, rural women continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience, strength, and an undaunted spirit. In support of their efforts and contributions to the development of Imo State, we have always assisted them. Recently, we empowered 1,575 women across various categories during the 2024 August Meeting Grand Finale. Additionally, we supported 135 SMEs, 655 rural cooperatives, and 345 interest groups, providing cassava stems, potato seedlings, and maize seeds along with ₦50,000 to 1,000 rural farmers. We also offered ₦50,000 financial assistance to petty traders in 305 wards of the state. We know that by empowering them, we promote sustainable livelihoods and economic growth in rural areas, paving the way for gender equality and a sustainable future.
