Child abuse, including domestic violence against minors, is a grave violation that must be unequivocally condemned. Such abuse leaves lasting physical injuries, emotional scars, and other damaging consequences on the victims. This is exemplified by the recent case of 12-year-old Amarachi Emmanuel, who was brutally abused by her stepmother, Mrs. Blessing Emmanuel. The Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Nkechinyere Ugwu UNJP, visited Amarachi at Umuguma Specialist Hospital, Owerri, where the child is receiving comprehensive medical care for the severe injuries inflicted upon her. Mrs. Blessing Emmanuel, the accused, is currently in police custody, facing the appropriate legal consequences. In light of this, all guardians and caregivers are strongly advised to refrain from any form of abuse or maltreatment of children in their care. The law will hold accountable anyone found guilty of such offenses. The Child Rights Act and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act serve as robust legal frameworks designed to protect children and ensure their rights are upheld.
