At the #UNGA79 Side Event hosted by Stop TB Partnership, I had the honour of joining Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Ambassador Prof. Olufolake Abdulrazaq, Chairperson of the Nigeria Governors' Spouses Forum and wife of the Kwara State Governor, along with other distinguished guests at the Westin Hotel, New York City, USA.
The event, themed "Breaking the Resistance: Fighting Antimicrobial Resistance & Tuberculosis Together for a Healthy Future," focused on urgent actions needed to combat the growing threats of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and tuberculosis. In her address at the event, the First Lady FRN emphasized that ending Tuberculosis and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) by 2030 is achievable with existing tools and expertise, as Tuberculosis affects people from all backgrounds, with the poor being most vulnerable. As a Global and National Stop TB Champion, she called for joint efforts, innovative approaches, and research to prevent new infections, improve awareness and education, promote antibiotic stewardship and develop new tools and vaccines.
Dr. Lucica Ditiu, Executive Director of the Stop TB Partnership, urged Nations to collaborate by leveraging each other's strengths in the fight against TB. She acknowledged ongoing challenges but highlighted the significant progress that has been made.
