My husband, His Excellency Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma CON, delivered a thought-provoking public lecture titled 'Where are the Nigerians: A Study on Patriotism and Citizenship', and I had the pleasure of joining him.
The lecture, held at the Yoruba Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos Island of Lagos State on July 18, 2024, provided a deep reflection on our nation's journey, questioning our patriotism and citizenship across geopolitical zones, ethnicities, and religions. He highlighted our increasing reliance which undermines our sense of civic ownership. He reminded us that true change begins with individual responsibility and collective action.
He called for a shift in the narrative, emphasizing that true citizenship requires active participation, not mere spectatorship. He urged us to demand more from ourselves rather than just from our leaders. He stressed that citizenship should be seen as a badge of honour, not a passive privilege. By actively embracing our rights and duties, we can transform our nation's narrative.
Together, he believes we can forge a brighter future where every Nigerian plays their part in the development of our country.
