International Women’s Day (IWD) CONFERENCE IN IMO STATE
In her address at the just concluded International Women's Day Conference, 2021, which held at the Sam Mbakwe Hall, Imo Concorde Hotel on Thursday, March 11, 2021, Her Excellency, Barr. Chioma Uzodimma, the First Lady, Imo State, yet again continued to maintain that women can be more only if they can come together and forge a common front. When women work together, they do exploits, she added. This can only be possible when women wear hearts devoid of destructive envy, backbiting and unhealthy rivalry and competitions. Women are meant to see themselves as pillars and ladders for each other to climb when and where necessary.
H.E. Barr. Chioma Uzodimma made it clear that women are the real pillars of the home, without whom a house cannot function optimally, adding that women have been able to rise, even in the face of the obvious numerous daunting challenges which continues to confront them. She further advised women to keep bracing up against all odds, to aspire and ascend sundry leadership positions.
In line with the campaign theme, she charged the audience choose and decide to challenge all the status-quos that limit the womenfolk, charging her audience to raise their hands as a demonstrative sign, to challenge all biases, intimidations, stereotypes and all forms violence against women.
The conference which was organized by her office in partnership with the ministry of Women Affairs and Vulnerable Group had other cerebral guest speakers such as Hon. Justice Ijeoma Agugua, the Acting Chief Judge of Imo State, Hon. Dr. Damaris. A. Osunkwo and Sen. Chris Anyanwu. Justice Agugua, Hon. Osunkwo and Sen. Anyanwu spoke on Women: Justice and the Judiciary, Women’s HealthCare / COVID-19 Vaccination and Women in politics: Charting the way forward, respectively.
Also, Hon. (Amb.) Uju Onwudiwe, member representing Njaba LGA at the Imo State House of Assembly (IMHA) spoke on the possibility and strategies for women to win political offices which hinges mainly on self confidence and goodwill.
At the summit, all women groups were aptly represented in their shades and colours. Another highlight of the event was the Omenimo cultural group. They entertained the audience with good music performances and drama presentations, depicting the importance of the women folk in our society.
