In response to the viral video showing a widow being assaulted and thrown into a gutter in Umuawada, Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA of Imo State, the police have re-arrested the culprit, Chinagorom Ukaegbu, on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024. This successful apprehension was achieved through the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, under the leadership of the Commissioner, Hon. Nkechinyere Ugwu UNJP, and the Nigeria Police Force.

Reports indicate that the suspect, previously at large, returned to the village and further harassed the widow, threatening her with additional violence. He reportedly spat on her and declared that no one would assist her if he decided to kill her.

Chinagorom Ukaegbu will now face the full consequences of his actions. The Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (VAPP) and other pertinent laws will be rigorously applied in this case. The Imo State Government, under the leadership of my husband, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma CON, unequivocally condemns the victimization of widows or any citizen. This serves as a stern warning to anyone contemplating such reprehensible acts.
