In commemoration of the 2024 Children’s Day, my office, in partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, organized a delightful event at Government House Owerri, hosting over 400 pupils from various schools and orphanage homes. This event upholds my commitment to annually celebrate Children’s Day with the children of the Eastern Heartland. I stressed the importance of love, care, and compassion for children during this period, emphasizing their well-being as a top priority. I reiterated the Government’s dedication to providing them with protection and quality education to foster positive values and citizenship.
Represented by our esteemed Deputy Governor, HE Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, PhD, I encouraged the children to speak up confidently, assuring them of the administration’s attentiveness to their concerns.
During the celebration, the Deputy Governor presented awards to the best performing schools in the Spelling Bee competition. Concorde Model Secondary School emerged victorious, with Mirachi Academy securing the second position. In the nursery and primary school category, Twinkle Star Academy took the top spot, and the gifts were presented by Hon. Humphrey Ikeaka, the DG of GoodHope Flourish Foundation.
The Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, UNJP, warmly welcomed the children and conveyed my commitment to their happiness, urging them to be exemplary ambassadors of Imo State.
Children enthusiastically participated in games and dancing, with the highlight being the distribution of school bags, transportation support, writing materials, among other gifts, bringing joy to all.
This celebration demonstrates the Government’s dedication to supporting youth development and ensuring a brighter future for our State. #HappyChildrensDay
