I had the pleasure of being represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, at the World Red Cross Day event held on May 8, 2024 in Owerri. During the ceremony, I conveyed my sincere appreciation for the Red Cross's relentless dedication to serving humanity, emphasizing that this year's theme, "Keeping Humanity Alive," perfectly encapsulates their selfless commitment to improving our world.

I commended the Red Cross for steadfastly upholding the essential principles and values that bind them as a global humanitarian network. I assured them of the Government's enduring support and encouraged them to continue investing their time, skills, and resources in the service of others, knowing that their efforts will yield meaningful results.

Earlier in the program, Chief Dr. Fidel Onyeneke, Chairman of the occasion, and Prince Keke Chima, State Chairman of the Society, delivered inspiring speeches, urging the Red Cross to reaffirm their dedication to their noble mission. In attendance were the: Chief Judge of Imo State, Hon. Justice Theresa Chikeka (represented by Hon. Justice Vicky Isiguzo), HRH Eze Dike of Amaiyi Nta, HRH Eze Joe Anika of Atta ancient kingdom, alongside representatives from the Nigeria Immigration Service, NSCDC, FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, NYSC, among other attendees. The program highlights included the recognition of outstanding members, cultural dance performances, and the ceremonial cake cutting to commemorate this special occasion.
