A video of a female student identified as Miss Ukamaka from the Department of Medical Laboratory at the Imo State University (IMSU) went viral a few days ago for receiving multiple slaps from her lecturer for attending lectures in the wrong outfit.

The incident which occurred at a lecture hall in IMSU, was taken up by the university Management and additional inquiries revealed that the said lecturer, Dr. Desmond Izunwanne, from the Department of Physiology had a history of misusing his authority.

The Management of IMSU has suspended the lecturer and I would like to applaud them for their prompt action as they continue to thoroughly examine the situation whilst taking action to protect the victim.

I urge students in institutions to report inappropriate conducts they have encountered with any authority, to ensure such incidents do not occur again.
