I joined the students of Imo State University as they marked International Women's Day Celebration at the Imo State University Auditorium in Owerri on March 30, 2023.
The event themed "Digit ALL Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality", was organized by the Centre for Women and Gender Studies (CWGS) at Imo State University and the Centre for Social Awareness Advocacy and Ethics (CSAAE) with the major objective being to support and uplift the women among them and the school.
The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, Imo State - Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu duly represented me at the event, and spoke on "How Technology Can be a Catalyst for Gender Equality in Nigeria", highlighting the need to break gender imbalance and stereotypes in the digital world.
As a learning community, I reminded the students, the Administrators, and the principal officers of the institution that it was their responsibility to nurture a supportive and inclusive learning environment that ensured women were well-represented in every facet of decision-making.
The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor of IMSU, Prof. U.U Chukwumaeze, Principal officers of the University, Commissioner for E-Government and Digital Economy, Hon. Dr. Chimezie Amadi, and other State Government appointees.
