The International Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA), a non-profit organization made up of women lawyers protecting, promoting, and preserving the rights of women and children in Nigeria has done tremendous work across the country.
On November 4, 2022, the Imo State Chapter of this great organization was led by their Chairperson, Ndidi Anike Val-Okeoma, Esq. to pay a courtesy visit to my office and to invite me for their 2022 FIDA Week which comes up from November 12 - 16, 2022.
They highlighted the interactive activities of the FIDA week and appreciated the 3R Administration for its support to them, especially in signing the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) bill into law. The law gave them a wider legal framework to effectively prosecute perpetrators of Domestic Violence and Sexual Gender-Based Violence and give indigent women justice.
I informed them of actions taken by my office in setting up a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) within the State, which will further assist victims. They commended the plan, greatly contributed to it, and reassured me of their continued loyalty to the Shared Prosperity Administration.
During the vote of thanks, they awarded me Statutory Matron and presented materials made only for members of the organization. I am truly grateful for this honour and look forward to collaborating with them on numerous projects, particularly on the upcoming 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence tagged, “UNITE! Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls”.
