In order to promote breastfeeding culture, encourage breastfeeding mothers, and improve the health of mothers and babies around the world, #WorldBreastfeedingWeek (WBW) is celebrated from August 1st to 7th every year.

The theme for this year, "Step up for Breastfeeding, Educate and Support", aims to intensify action on strengthening health systems for transformational change and to anchor breastfeeding as an important component of good nutrition, food security, and reducing inequality.

As breastfeeding is a key component of ensuring children's health and survival, I urge us to join organisations, communities and the rest of the world in celebrating #WorldBreastfeedingWeek.
