In a capacity-building webinar held today, the Nigerian Governors’ Wives Forum (NIGWF) @ngw_forum in partnership with the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) and several resourceful individuals addressing gender-based violence (GBV), discussed the establishment and management of Sexual Assault Referral Centers (SARC) for survivors of sexual and GBV.

By using Lagos and Borno as case studies, Professor Joy Ezeelo, Founder of Women Aid Collective (WACOL), Ms. Itoro Eze-Ababa, Founder of Mirabel Center and Hajia Fatima Mustapha, from the Ministry of Women Affairs Maiduguri, took us through the dynamics of managing and setting SARC.

The discussion was also centred on the major needs of sustaining SARC and the importance of the State Governments creating a budget for it.

I commend all the speakers, including those who shared insightful comments on upholding the aim of SARC in our States.

The webinar was enlightening and I am confident that with adequate support, the plans of the NIGWF and the 3R Administration will come to actualization for the good of our people.
