In collaboration with the Civil Resources Development and Documentation Centre (CIRDDOC), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Ministry of Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, and my office, a press conference was organized today, March 11, 2022, to mark the recently celebrated International Day for Zero Tolerance for FGM.

During this seminar, the Media Practitioners present were urged to fully participate in endorsing the fight against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). To ensure the total elimination of FGM from our society, everyone, especially those in the media spaces have to play a role in educating the general public on its consequences. Gender mutilation violates the rights of the girl child and does NOTHING but leaves them with health complications.

Let us keep raising awareness and speaking about it until it is eradicated. In that regard, I commend the Executive Secretary, Civil Resources Development and Documentation Centre, Ms. Onyinye Okaah, the HOD of the Women Affairs Department, Dr. Azubuike, and other Ministry staff for taking time to ensure the success of this event.
