Women from both the public and private sectors in Imo State, joined other women across the country on Tuesday, 8th March 2022, in a peaceful demonstration to mark the #InternationalWomensDay.
In Imo State, our women who were led by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, Hon. Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, walked from the State Secretariat to the Imo House of Assembly in honour of raising awareness about the pending issues women still face in the 21st century. They were received at the House of Assembly by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh and other members of the House.
In their remarks, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Group, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, the wife of the Speaker of IMHA, Mrs. Ibeh, and the representatives of Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Alliance for Africa, Whisper to Humanity, and the National Council of Women Society, appealed to the State House to speak up for more favourable bills for women as our fight for equality is a matter of urgency.
I remain optimistic that an inclusive future free of bias is near. One day our collective action and effort will yield positive results for the women who will come after us. #BreakTheBias
