To end the #16DaysofActivism against Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) which started on November 25, 2021, and commemorate the annual Human Rights Day themed “EQUALITY- Reducing inequalities, advancing human rights”, my office, together with the Imo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups organized a walk to protest rape and other forms of gender-based violence.

Today, various Imolites joined us at the Imo International Conference Center, Owerri, as we marched through the streets of Owerri to Government House, to support our mothers, wives, sisters, sons and daughters. In the spirit of peace, justice and equality, we walked to show our commitment to shaping a world without violence against females, a world where every woman has a voice, a choice, and the opportunity to succeed.

Despite the conclusion of this year’s global campaign, we must not relent, instead, we must intensify and remain committed to raising awareness about the dangers of sexual and gender-based violence in our communities. I appreciate the support and participation of various organizations and individuals who actively contributed to making this solidarity walk a success.
