A workshop was held by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups at the Imo State Ministry Conference Hall, for its staff members during which the Department collaborated with Alliance for Africa (AFA) to educate them on the issues of Gender-Based Violence and how to properly handle cases brought to their attention.
While I continue to work to ensure the Violence Against People Protection Act (VAPP) Bill, which seeks to eliminate violence in both the public and private spheres, is passed, we will continue to put strong measures in place to educate the community and to ensure the rights of our children, particularly the girl child, are protected.
To that end, I'm pleased to confirm that an office that will be staffed by trained professionals which will educate and inform the community about gender-based violence and how to intervene, will open in due course.
