The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day, is observed every year on June 26 with an aim to raise awareness about issues related to drugs and strengthening actions and co-operation in order to make the world free of drug abuse. This observance was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in the year 1987.
Drug abuse is the use of illegal drugs or the use of prescription or over-the-counter drugs for purposes other than those for which they are meant to be used, or in excessive amounts.
This year's theme - “Share Facts on Drugs. Save Lives, aims to highlight the importance of communicating truthful information to save people from the dangers of drugs and combat misinformation. The idea is to share of facts on drugs — from health risks and solutions, to tackling the world drug problem, to evidence-based prevention, treatment, and care.
