On 26 June 2026, we gathered at Government House, Owerri, for the Cancer Survivors Gala 2026 to celebrate life, honour courage, and reaffirm our commitment to a future where every Nigerian affected by cancer has the opportunity not only to survive but to thrive. Held to mark National Cancer Survivor Month, the Gala celebrated the extraordinary resilience of cancer survivors whose strength reminds us that hope is stronger than fear and healing extends beyond treatment to emotional, social, financial, and spiritual wellbeing. As Chairperson of First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC), I remain committed to strengthening cancer awareness, prevention, HPV vaccination advocacy, early detection, patient support, and survivorship care across Nigeria. This year’s theme, Celebrating Survivorship, Strengthening Systems, calls on all of us to continue investing in a stronger cancer care system for every Nigerian. I sincerely thank H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his administration’s commitment to advancing healthcare, and H.E. Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of Nigeria, for the Renewed Hope Initiative’s generous support for cervical cancer elimination. My heartfelt appreciation goes to the Government of Imo State, led by my dear husband, H.E. Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, Executive Governor of Imo State, for his support. I also thank all the First Ladies who honoured us with their presence, my sisters and colleagues in First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC) for their dedication and leadership, the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), our distinguished guests, Friends of FLAC, healthcare professionals, partners, sponsors, volunteers, caregivers, and everyone who made this event a success. Above all, we celebrate every cancer survivor. Your courage inspires us to keep building a future where more Nigerians survive and thrive.
