'Yes! We Can End TB!' This hopeful message echoed across the streets of Owerri today as we commemorated World Tuberculosis Day. Organised by my office and the Imo State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP) and the Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria, our joint road walk and free TB screening exercise reinforced our collective resolve to safeguard the health of every family in Imo State.

While we continue to record significant gains through intensified case finding and wider access to free treatment, many cases still go unnoticed. We must remain vigilant. A persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, fever, night sweats, chest pain, or unexplained weight loss are warning signs that must never be ignored.

It is important to remember that early diagnosis and effective treatment can cure TB completely and prevent further spread.

I commend all our organisers and collaborators for this impactful event. Let us carry this momentum forward: find every missing case, reduce stigma through open conversations, and support patients throughout their treatment journey. Led by the Ministry of Health and powered by our resilient communities, we will achieve a TB free Imo State and contribute to a healthier Nigeria.
