We celebrated with quite a number of our school children in commemoration of the International Day of the African Child (DAC) yesterday, June 16th, 2021 in Imo State. We had interactive sessions them and handed them sundry gift items.
Our first port of call was Owerri Girls Secondary School, as my team were well received by the students and teachers. I expressed my commitment to the betterment of the girl child particularly in areas of their safety, protection and education.
We were also at the Brain Field Nursery and Primary School, where we were warmly received by the Administrator, teachers and pupils from Nursery to Grade 5. We had ample time to respond to their questions bordering on self development, career paths, etc. It was generally interactive as I charged them to be of good conduct.
Finally, my team stopped over at Save The Child Motherless Babies Home, to share the day with the Proprietor, Staff and the children. We identified with them and encouraged them through the challenges they encounter in running the facility and raising the children.
In 1991, the African Union (AU) designated June 16th of every year as Day of the African Child and ever since then, events are organized to promote children's rights and better their welfare.
