The 2026 International Women’s Day commemoration is a vital moment to amplify progress and confront the challenges remaining in our pursuit of gender equality.
Yesterday, March 10, 2026, I joined voices at the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) for the “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” ceremony in Lagos. This global initiative mobilizes stock exchanges to leverage capital markets in expanding women’s economic participation and institutionalizing gender-inclusive practices.
In my remarks, I noted that protecting the girl-child is not a mere catchphrase; it is a binding vow. Through the GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative (GHWFI), we champion innovative interventions; from school counselling desks addressing anxiety, to justice advocacy for survivors of abuse. Our impact is measured in lives transformed. Through our Reaching Forward Mentorship Programme, over 450 girls have gained the leadership skills necessary for civic participation. Our Project Flourish 200 programme is currently empowering over 200 women in Owerri with marketable vocational skills. This work proves that protecting the girl-child is a commitment to action. When we invest in her, justice follows through stronger families and vibrant economies. I commend @ngxgrp for demonstrating that the private sector can, and must be a catalyst for gender justice.
May this commeration symbolize our collective pledge: to protect every girl, expand opportunity, and build an economy where every woman and girl has the space to flourish.
