Yesterday, March 5, 2026, I attended the first quarterly meeting of the year with Her Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Oluremi Tinubu, CON, the First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative, alongside my colleagues; the wives of State Governors and the Renewed Hope Initiative State Coordinators.
The First Lady called on us to take bold, independent action against social vices and economic challenges in our regions, with a focus on youth empowerment, women’s skills development, and grassroots interventions.
We shared progress updates and charted the course for 2026. In April, the Renewed Hope Initiative National Community Food Bank will be launched across all six geopolitical zones, linked to Primary Health Care centres to supply nutritional supplements for malnourished children aged 0 to 6 and pregnant women, backed by a new trust fund.
Environmental action took centre stage. The First Lady called for the immediate launch of State Environment Clubs and urged youth groups to plant trees and combat plastic waste by July 15, 2026.
Looking ahead, she outlined the RHI National Scholarship Programme scheduled for September and the Elderly Support Scheme in December, challenging States to exceed 250 beneficiaries per state through ₦100,000 grants and medical screenings. She also highlighted Disability Day launches for Persons with Disabilities Support and Business Recapitalisation Grants.
