World Blood Donor Day is commemorated annually today, June 14, to celebrate those who give their blood unpaid inorder to save the lives of those in need of blood transfusion.

The theme of this year's celebration is 'Give blood and keep the world beating'. The day aims to raise awareness of the need for safe blood, to thank and honour blood donors who make transfusion possible and to encourage regular blood donation by suitable donors.

I encourage us to commit more to donating blood to save lives and help improve the health of others.

Furthermore, I reinforce the global call for more people to contribute to better health by donating blood regularly.
