CHILDHOOD CANCER STEALS CHILDHOOD, BUT HOPE AND ACTION CAN RESTORE JOY – IMO STATE FIRST LADY AND FLAC CHAIR, BARR. CHIOMA UZODIMMA, MARKS INTERNATIONAL CHILDHOOD CANCER DAY 2026

Childhood cancer robs families of normalcy, replacing laughter with hospital visits, playtime with painful treatments, and dreams with fear. Behind every diagnosis is a child who deserves to simply be a child. Today, we observe International Childhood Cancer Day 2026 with the theme “Demonstrating Impact: From Challenge to Change.” Every child diagnosed faces formidable challenges: painful treatments, disrupted childhoods, fear, and uncertainty. Change is possible when we act with compassion and commitment. Improved early detection, accessible treatment, psychosocial support, and survivor care can transform outcomes. Every child deserves the chance to laugh, play, learn, and dream. Let us stand together to turn challenges into meaningful change, creating a world where childhood cancer is treatable, families find support, and every child experiences the fullness of life.
