The fight against cancer in Nigeria calls for unity in the face of our unique and complex challenges. Joining @projectpinkblue today at the World Cancer Day Symposium at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, a multidisciplinary stakeholders’ engagement themed ‘Cancer, Conflict and Insecurity in Nigeria.’
Serving as keynote speaker, I addressed how conflict and insecurity severely hamper cancer care delivery. With approximately 128,000 new cases annually and over 127,000 deaths yearly, our nation faces a mounting crisis, with over 70% of breast cancer cases presenting at late stages.
As Chairperson of First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC), we have championed solutions through partnerships with NICRAT and Roche, conducting free screening programmes, HPV vaccination campaigns, and grassroots awareness initiatives across all geopolitical zones.
I proposed comprehensive strategies to ensure equitable access, strengthen healthcare infrastructure, and protect medical services amid insecurity.
Let us commit to honouring survivors, caregivers, and health workers at the frontlines. Together, through sustained collaboration, we can ensure every Nigerian receives quality, timely, and dignified cancer care.
