I paid a visit to the IMSU Medical Unit, Owerri, in the company of the Wife of the Imo State Chief of Staff, Engr. Oby Anyaehie; the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, UNJP; and other senior officials of the Ministry, to ascertain the wellbeing of Little Miss Onyinye, a five-year-old survivor of grievous child abuse, who is currently receiving medical care.

Little Miss Onyinye, an indigene of Osina, Ideato North Local Government Area, was subjected to severe and inhumane treatment by her guardian, including burns inflicted with candle wax and the immersion of her hands in boiling water, resulting in serious injuries. I am pleased to state that she has successfully undergone two major corrective surgeries, with all medical expenses fully borne by my Foundation, the GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative.

She is responding positively to treatment and is presently in a stable condition.

I commend the courage of the whistleblowers and all concerned individuals and agencies who acted promptly to safeguard the child and ensure that this incident was brought to public attention. The Imo State Government, working alongside my Office and partners, remains resolute in its commitment to securing justice for Onyinye and to the protection of children and other vulnerable persons, as we continue to work towards a safer and more just society.
