On January 1, 2026, we shared in the joy of motherhood during our visit to the Imo State Specialist Hospital, Umuguma, Owerri, to welcome the first babies of the year. Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, we celebrated the arrival of the "First Baby of the Year", a healthy baby boy born at 7:00 AM, as well as two other newborns, a boy and a girl. To support these mothers and their bundles of joy, all medical bills were cleared, including the costs for two Cesarean sections. Additionally, cash gifts were provided to help the families care for their newborns. This New Year goodwill was also extended to five other infants in the maternity ward; a baby girl and two sets of twins, who all received cash gifts. This tradition reflects our commitment to maternal and child healthcare and our appreciation for the mothers who bring new life into our state. I congratulate all the mothers on their safe deliveries and pray that God grants them the wisdom, strength, and resources to raise their children in health and prosperity. May 2026 be a year filled with blessings for these families and for all the people of Imo State.
