On Tuesday, December 30, 2025, Ogwuaga Abba Community in Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State witnessed a historic cultural milestone with the maiden Ofala Festival of His Royal Highness, Eze Obinna Akwiwu, Duru Oshimiri III. The event signified a moment of cultural renewal and unity, as sons and daughters of the community, both at home and in the diaspora, gathered in solidarity to honour their revered traditional ruler. I attended the occasion in the company of my dear husband, the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, alongside other distinguished guests. The Ofala Festival is a revered Igbo cultural institution, marking the monarch’s re-emergence from spiritual retreat to reaffirm his leadership, bless the people, and strengthen ancestral ties. The colourful displays of music, dance, and royal regalia highlighted the richness of Igbo cultural heritage and the enduring bond between the throne, the people, and the land.
