It was a warm and memorable experience in Calabar on December 29, 2025, shared with my dear husband, Governor Hope Uzodimma, as we joined the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Prince Bassey Edet Otu, his family, and the people of Cross River at the iconic Calabar Festival. Alongside other distinguished guests, I watched as the people proudly celebrated their identity, and I was touched by the sense of unity, joy, and shared purpose throughout the event. The carnival’s blend of music, art, pageantry, and community spirit continues to make it one of Africa’s most respected cultural gatherings, attracting visitors from across Nigeria and beyond.

The rhythm, creativity, and warmth of the celebrations reminded me of our collective duty to protect and promote our cultural roots. Our traditions are precious stories passed from one generation to the next, helping our children understand who they are, where they come from, and the values that unite us as a people. As we move forward and welcome the world, we must be intentional in preserving our heritage, protecting our history, and passing it on with pride and honour to future generations.
