Marking the conclusion of activities for the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, themed “Elimination of All Forms of Digital Violence Against Women and Girls,” my office, in conjunction with the Imo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare and with support from UN Women, led a sensitization walk with civil society organizations and NGOs to raise awareness on all forms of violence and abuse against women and girls in Imo State. The sensitization walk, which commenced from the Ministry of Women Affairs and concluded at the New Owerri Police Division, advocated for stronger police involvement in the fight against gender-based violence, rape, child abuse, and harmful widowhood practices, while ensuring that offenders are diligently prosecuted under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law. Together, we remain committed to building a safer Imo State where every woman and girl lives free from violence and fear.
