In commemoration of International Human Rights Day, marking the conclusion of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, I was delighted to join the celebration yesterday, hosted by the National Human Rights Commission at the NBA Bar Centre, Owerri. I was represented by Mrs. Ijeoma Nduka, Wife of the MD, Anambra-Imo Basin Development Agency.
In my remarks at the event, I that during the past sixteen days, we have stood united to challenge harmful practices, support survivors, and build a society where every woman and girl can live free from fear, abuse, and discrimination. International Human Rights Day reminds us that every human being, regardless of status, gender, age, or background, is entitled to dignity, respect, and fundamental rights.
These rights determine whether our women can participate fully in economic and political life, whether our children can grow up safe and empowered, and whether our communities can flourish in peace and prosperity.
In our approach to a better society, we must challenge harmful attitudes and practices wherever they exist. Let us hold ourselves accountable for creating an Imo State where every person can live with dignity, freedom, and opportunity.
