"Equitable Cancer Care" is the theme of the 2-day free cancer screening programme I launched on October 30, 2025, at Imo Specialist Hospital, Umuguma, Owerri. Organized by my foundation, GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative, in collaboration with the Imo State Ministry of Health, this initiative ensures that no one is left behind and that everyone receives equal care in our fight against cancer.
The programme provides free breast, cervical, and prostate cancer screenings for 2,000 persons, alongside health talks that educate participants on cancer prevention, early detection warning signs, and healthy lifestyle choices. At the flag-off ceremony, my address, delivered by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Chioma Obinna-Egu, acknowledged that the word "cancer" frightens many people. However, with early detection through screening, we can often defeat it. "The cancer we detect early becomes the cancer we can treat, the cancer we can survive, the cancer that becomes part of our story instead of the end of our story." I commend the Imo State Government for their support through the Ministry of Health and express gratitude to everyone who prioritized their health by participating in this programme. Together, we will rewrite the cancer narrative from a story of fear and loss to one of hope, early detection, and survival.
