In the past few months, we all have witnessed an unprecedented increase in security breaches and incidents around Imo State and the Southeast in general. Sadly, these incidents have occurred with an overwhelming level of violence and destruction of lives and properties, which should ignite a deep sense of concern from all of us as lovers of peace and harmony.
To this end, certainly, we must appreciate the fact that there can be no meaningful development in an atmosphere of chaos and insecurity. Yes, I most certainly admit that there may be reasons for us to disagree with the government on certain issues; however, we must endeavour to put our differences aside and work together to enable the growth and development of our state, and most importantly, to build and sustain an environment of optimal safety and security.
It is imperative to note that regardless of our personal views and political dispositions, we are first and foremost Imolites. As Ndị Imo, we must collectively, without equivocation, reject any and all attempts to destabilize the serenity of our beloved State by those seeking to stoke the embers of violence.
The security of lives and property is the collective responsibility of all Imolites. I enjoin us all to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in the maintenance of law and order, as the Imo State Government welcomes any suggestion aimed at making the state crime-free.
May I seize this medium to call on the security operatives at the State and Federal Government Levels, to fashion out people-centric approaches that will effectively identify the root causes of these disturbances and work with the public to implement viable solutions. I also urge our Security Agencies to work assiduously towards forestalling actions that may lead to subsequent breakdown of law and order by upholding engagements with the civilian populace in a professional and amiable manner.
I commiserate with the families of those who have lost loved ones due to the unfortunate incidents of stray bullets. Very unfortunate! My office has rendered assistance and will continue to partner with the Office of the Governor to support the families of victims in order to further alleviate their pains.
I salute the efforts of all patriotic individuals & security agents who have continued to volunteer credible information to Law enforcement officials.
I appeal to our women; mothers, wives, sisters, to kindly, as a matter of urgency, use their power of influence in speaking peace to this situation. Imo is our collective responsibility to keep and protect. Let us all be stakeholders in the Save-Imo Project.
H.E. Barr. Chioma Uzodimma First Lady, Imo State
