October continues to hold significant importance within the cancer care ecosystem, particularly in our collective efforts to combat breast cancer. October 21, 2025 marked a major milestone at Oba Ademola Hospital in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC) celebrated the official commissioning of the Ogun State FLAC Breast Cancer Screening Clinic; a facility dedicated to the early detection of breast cancer, which remains the most effective tool in improving survival outcomes. In my goodwill message at the inauguration, I commended Roche for their impactful partnership with the Ogun State Government and the Ajose Foundation, founded by Her Excellency, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, First Lady of Ogun State. The event was further graced by Her Excellency, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, President-elect of the Union for International Cancer Control and Immediate Past Chairperson of FLAC; Dr. Ladi Hameed, General Manager, Roche Nigeria; Dr. Bolarinwa Oyedeji, Medical Director; Pharm. Terseer Sar, Head of Access and Policy; Ms. Halima Okafor, Patient Engagement Specialist; and Ms. Doris Duke, Healthcare Systems Partner, Communications and Public Affairs. This initiative reflects more than corporate social responsibility; it represents a profound investment in the health and future of Nigerian women. By bringing essential screening services closer to communities, we empower women to take charge of their health in a safe, supportive environment, helping to change the narrative around breast cancer detection and treatment. FLAC remains deeply committed to championing initiatives like this across the country. Together, we will continue working to ensure that every Nigerian woman has access to early detection services; and that no woman loses her life to a disease that is both preventable and treatable when caught early. 🎗️ #FirstLadiesAgainstCancer #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #CancerAwareness
