In a collective effort to tackle and address the menace of drug abuse and promote a healthier society in Imo State, I met with the new Imo State Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nyidide Alexander, who paid a courtesy visit to my office on September 29, 2025, accompanied by some officers of the Agency. The Commandant expressed appreciation to my office for renovating the Drug Rehabilitation Center at the NDLEA office in Owerri, which he stated has helped reduce the strain on their facility and assisted in rehabilitating drug victims. He also requested assistance in expanding the facility to accommodate more victims, as it is overstretched due to the increasing number of applicants to the Rehabilitation Center. He further highlighted some of the sensitization programs and campaigns conducted by the Agency to dissuade those already trapped in the menace while advocating against the abuse of illicit drugs, which is prevalent in the state. In my remarks, I commended them for their work and pledged my support and partnership with the Agency towards addressing this societal issue. I also called for collective action to create a drug-free Imo State.
