In our avowed commitment to see to the end of rape, defilement, various forms of gender-based violence and also assuage the pains of victims therefrom, we have yet again reached out to another victim of this ugly menace.

We received a report on a 15 year old, Miss Achilike, from Ubomiri in Mbatoli Local Government Area (LGA), whose story had gone viral. She was raped, impregnated and was eventually delivered of a set of twin babies, male and female.

On Friday, 23rd April, 2021, my office, through the Imo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, reached out to her. We handed her some relief items such as food, sundry sanitary items and financial support.

I hereby reiterate our unflinching commitment to advocacy against rape, sexual defilement and all forms of violence against women and girls. I enjoin parents to closely watch over their children and wards, of both gender due to their vulnerability to such despicable acts.

Miss Achilike was counselled to not see herself as a failure, as the situation she found herself in was just a temporary set back. I assured her of our resolve to make all necessary arrangements to send her back to school.

The VAPP Bill, which we are presently working on and the introduction of Sex Offenders Register would protect the vulnerable of our society from social deviants.

We are encouraged to do our bit. Together, we can make the necessary positive change needed in our society, as such, may I seize this opportunity to appreciate individuals and groups who have reached out to our daughter. I appreciate all your concerns and kind gestures.

Security Agencies have been charged to fish out the culprits and subject them to the full weight of the law.
