Literature has the unique ability to shape minds, preserve culture, and inspire change. This is what one of the attendees of the first edition of the Reaching Forward Mentorship Program organized by my foundation, the Goodhope Women Flourish Initiative - GHWFI, Deborah C. Uzoma, has accomplished with her thoughtful collection of children's poems, "My Father's House and Other Poems", a collection that aims to instil moral values, cultural awareness, patriotism, and self-expression in our children.
Represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Nkechinyere Ugwu UNJP, at the book launch on 25th May, 2025, at Whelan Research Academy, Owerri, Imo State, I am impressed by the book's focus on balancing "the uncertain realities of society" with positive moral teachings. Our children need to be prepared for the world they will inherit while being equipped with the values that will help them navigate it with dignity and purpose.
Through poetry, complex ideas become accessible, and difficult truths become digestible even for young minds. To the author, Deborah C. Uzoma, congratulations. Writing is not merely stringing words together; it is baring your soul, sharing your vision, and in the case of "My Father's House and Other Poems," contributing to the moral fabric of our society.
